Shared Leadership & Community-Led Co-Creation

enVISION operates through a shared leadership model that values lived experience as expertise.

Rather than relying on a single artistic authority, creative decisions emerge through dialogue among artists, community members, access specialists, interpreters, cultural bearers, and collaborators. Participants serve as advisors, educators, co-creators, and decision-makers throughout the development process.

Relationships begin long before rehearsals through listening sessions, cultural exchange, training, and shared exploration. These collaborations inform both the content of the work and the structures through which it is created.

This approach distributes power, strengthens accountability, and creates space for multiple perspectives to shape both the work itself and the structures through which it is created.

Through this process, community collaborators do not simply inform access considerations. They actively influence artistic direction, audience experience, communication strategies, and organizational learning. By investing in long-term relationships rather than one-time consultation, enVISION demonstrates how arts organizations can build more sustainable and reciprocal partnerships with disability communities.

This shift—from inclusion to co-creation—recognizes that disability communities possess cultural knowledge, artistic insight, and lived expertise capable of transforming both the creative process and the final artistic product.
