Movement Mentorship

Movement Mentorship: Creating New Career Pathways

Traditional dance training rarely prepares artists to work across disability cultures, communication systems, and multisensory performance environments.

The Movement Mentorship Training Program addresses this gap through learning focused on communication systems, cultural competency, sensory design, collaborative leadership, and access-centered artistic practice. Participants engage in training related to Blind and low vision access practices, Deaf culture, ASL, DeafBlind communication systems, tactile engagement, audio description, and disability-informed creative methodologies.

Participants learn directly from community educators, interpreters, advocates, artists, and cultural bearers while developing practical skills that can be applied in rehearsal rooms, classrooms, community settings, and performance environments.

Rather than positioning access as the responsibility of a single specialist, enVISION distributes knowledge across an artistic team, reducing barriers to participation while expanding professional opportunities for artists interested in inclusive creative practice.

The long-term vision is to cultivate a network of trained Movement Mentors capable of supporting accessible artistic production throughout North Carolina and beyond.
