Michael Rank has spent the lion’s share of his life performing and recording as a singer-songwriter. With over twenty albums released and a noted history of sharing the stage as an opening act for the likes of Iggy Pop, The Ramones, and Soundgarden to name but a few, he has now immersed himself into an exploration of movement, dance, and choreography. He has been selected as one of the featured choreographers in the upcoming 2020 season of Tobacco Road Dance Productions for his solo work “Vessels,” his work “The Orchard Knives” has been selected to make its premiere at the 2020 Greensboro Fringe Festival, and he currently trains under a number of Durham NC based instructors with a focus on improvisation, several forms of Modern dance technique, and Contemporary Ballet. His focal passions and inclinations are inspired by the movement language of Gaga, which he has studied under present and past members of the Batsheva Dance Company, and ShaLeigh Comerford’s ShaGa for the possibilities that are created and available from this process. He commenced his apprenticeship with ShaLeigh Dance Works in 2019 and is found wide-eyed, grateful, and ever reaching into the journey.
