Born and raised in the cloudy and mystical Pacific Northwest, Ashley began dancing at Bremerton Dance Center in Washington. Through the studio’s pre-professional company, Peninsula Dance Theatre, she performed in numerous story ballets and contemporary modern works by artists such as Kiyon Gaines, Lara Littlefield, Robert Kelley, and Charles Maple. Ashley attended summer programs at Summer Dance Lab, the Joffrey Ballet School, and the International Ballet Competition Dance School. From 2009 to 2011, she continued her training with Deborah Hadley and Eva Stone. Despite deciding to study biology in college, Ashley continued exploring modern dance through Western Washington University’s Dance Department. While there she performed works by Nolan Dennett, Susan Haines, Penny Hutchinson, and Rick Merrill. Additionally, she was selected to work with the Liz Gerring Dance Company on two works, “she dreams in code” in 2013 and “glacier” in 2015. Ashley moved to North Carolina in 2016 to pursue a master’s degree in public health. Luckily, she found ShaLeigh Dance Works and, within it, a home to continue her inquiry of movement.
